Egypt VAT

VAT in Egypt

Egypt replaced its General Sales Tax (GST) with Value Added Tax (VAT) in September 2016, setting the standard rate at 14%. Administered by the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) under the Ministry of Finance, it applies to most commercial goods and services. XiKey applies the 14% ETA rate and generates compliant invoices with all required fields for the Egyptian market.

Egypt Compliance Requirements

Full support for ETA requirements and Egypt's advanced e-invoicing platform

ETA E-Invoicing Platform

Egypt launched a national e-invoicing platform in 2021 under the ETA, one of the most advanced e-invoicing systems in Africa and the Middle East. Mandatory for large taxpayers since November 2020 and expanding to all registered taxpayers. XiKey's e-invoicing architecture supports integration with the Egyptian ETA platform.

EGP Currency Details

The Egyptian Pound divides into 100 Piastres. XiKey formats amounts to 2 decimal places with the (ج.م) symbol on Arabic invoices and EGP on English — matching Egyptian market expectations.

ETA Invoice Requirements

The ETA requires invoices to include: Supplier name and tax registration number, customer name and tax ID (B2B), invoice date and sequential number, detailed description of goods and services, taxable amounts and 14% VAT amounts, and totals both excluding and including VAT.
